To encourage male participation in the Catholic Church and to support those who are active to continue, the men folk of the Vicariate came together and decided to form a sodality that would cater for their needs. In most of our churches, the men are absent or very quiet. The Sodality of St. Joseph is meant to give them a voice and a role to play in the church.

This sodality already exists in other parts of the region and it is only now reaching us. Male participation is weak in the Catholic Church. These days we hear of “passion killings” or “murder-suicide”, divorce and breakdown of family life. It is the hope of this sodality to be able to assist men to stand up to their Christian responsibility in the spirit and example of St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus and the husband of Mary. He provided for his family.

Below is some information on the Sodality of St. Joseph that is still in formation. No groups have been initiated as yet, but they are working on it preparing themselves for the grand ceremony in the near future.

The organization has as motto: “LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE.” Its vision is to strive to encourage Catholic men to live and articulate the Catholic faith. The mission of the St. Joseph’s sodality is to unite Catholic men in the Vicariate for spiritual, religious and social advancement, while cooperating with the structures of the church.

Objectives of the sodality include, moulding the membership with Christian principles under the patronage of St. Joseph, to carry out apostolic duties, speak the faith with courage and promote and defend the Catholic faith in families. The members undertake to be faithful in marriage and to support the church financially.

Membership is open to Catholic men of 21 years and above.
